NAB Pilot Fellowship
This past year, I worked alongside one journalism student and two computer science students at the University of Minnesota to create an interactive app that complements a live broadcast of the Minnesota State High School Hockey Championship game. This tool allows users to view various pieces of information that add to the at-home viewership experience such as a bracket, team rosters with stats, and even our own media produced by my journalism colleague and I

Mock-up
In early October, we had the pleasure of visiting the National Association of Broadcasters in Washington, D.C. and learned about NextGen TV technology to help us get familiar with our project.
The Process
Over the semester, my journalism colleague and I brainstormed content we would like to see on the app. Using my experience covering high school sports and being in the arenas for games, I compiled a list of features that fans and parents would want to have at the touch of a finger.
This included rosters, college commitments, and brackets. We also made a media section for the app where we were given access to interview Minnesota Gopher hockey players.

The Presentation
In April 2025, my team and I got to visit Las Vegas at the NAB Show as speakers for our PILOT NextGen TV Fellowship where we presented the final version of our application.

Recognition
My team and I were honored at the Hubbard School of Journalism Spring Showcase and Recognition Lunch in early May. The project played a large role in the school adopting a new Sports Media and Information minor, which will be available next spring.
